Radio News

Radio News is pretty difficult to write.  I just got done writing my first 2 minute newscast for Media Scriptwriting and it took me what felt like 3 hours.  It probably felt like 3 hours because it actually took me 3 hours!  How in the world do these guys write a very solid 2 minute newscast in less than an hour with a deadline and make it great??  Well, according to Dr. King, "Writing, writing, writing."  I know that practice will make me better, but how do I go from where I'm at now, and possibly a news anchor for a big time radio station?  I just have to keep trucking along.  I feel like my newscasts are decent, but still needs work and I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of editing over the weekend!

Newsworthiness

What is newsworthiness?  How do people know when news is worth telling or not?  I relate this to even telling a simple story.  I always tell stories that might not be the best and then I think about it...what was I thinking??  It all comes down to this, do people care about it?  I think that point is the most important.  Obviously, selling the story is very important, but I think that the human interest aspect of it is the most effective.  Also, video helps as well.  It will allow more of an interest with video, but again, the most important is the story.
